.this series is from my two month stay in Portugal in 2020. My plan was to stay for October to extend my summer and get in as much surfing as possible. But as Germany went into another lockdown and the Portuguese waves kept giving and giving I decided not to take my flight back home and stay for another month at Laneez Ericeira Surfhouse.
This place has just the most insane view on not only one of my favorite surf spots – Praia Do Sul – but overall the best vibe you could imagine. Most of the shots of the ocean I took from the patio on top of the Surfhouse in Ericeira. Especially on rainy and stormy mornings it is stunning to just sit inside by the fireplace and watch the sets roll in through the big ocean-facing windows (as you can see in the beginning of this page).
I was also fortunate enough to be there for the swell of the century at Nazarè one October 29. It was probably the most unreal thing I have ever experienced. This shear force coming from the depths of the ocean, unloading just a hundred meters from where you are standing can just not imagined until you have seen it in person. When I walked over the last hill I could hear the thunder-like roaring of the 60-80 foot waves and see just a fine white line growing on the face which was the only sign of a surfer shooting down one of the waves like a projectile.
That should be enough of my memories flowing out of my mind for now; I hope that whoever has read this far and looked through these photographs has been able to feel a bit of the joy that I have been feeling throughout my entire time in Ericeira.
Everything has been shot analogue on Portra film stock (Yes, also the black & white shots, I felt the mood more without colours..).
